Ombres Chinoises is French for “Chinese puppetry” or “shadow play” (depending on the context). I came across this pair of words in one of Henry James’s best short stories, “The Jolly Corner,” and decided that it would be an interesting name for a blog. I wish I could say there were some deeper meaning behind the words themselves, but really I just think they sound harmonious.
Call me Laure. I am a 22-year-old senior at the University of North Texas, Denton, studying English, French, and history. Although I have a passion for the written art, I dreamt for years of being a fashion designer and actually began my higher education studies in it. But, as with most of us, the aesthetically-trained eye cannot always translate creative imagination into reality!
Bonjour! Je m’appelle Laure. Je suis en quatrième année à l’université de North Texas. Je me specialize en littérature anglaise et américaine, mais j’étudie aussi le français et l’histoire.
J’ai choisi le titre parce qu’il est de la nouvelle « The Jolly Corner » de Henry James, et j’ai pensé qu’il avait l’air intéressant.
