Lust List: Oxfords

At my Catholic high school, we were required to wear saddle oxfords every single day. Admittedly, the only part I hated was breaking in a new pair–so much so that I kept the same pair for three years! Even though our Willits were slightly bulky, I have always thought the oxford is a classic, timeless look, and a stylish choice for uniforms. In fact, five years after graduating, I still have my pair.

It wasn’t until very recently that I had ever heard oxfords referred to as brogues, so I had to research the distinction.

Since getting a job at a law firm in Dallas, I’ve been needing to buy more “business conservative” shoes–oxfords. Unfortunately, mine are too beat-up to continue wearing, especially in a professional work environment. Below are five work-appropriate, stylish variations of the oxford (or brogue) that range from minimalist to classic. Which is your favorite? I have my heart set on the Alexander Wang pair, but I also admire the modernist, minimal reinvention of the pair by Comme des Garçons.

1. The Classic: Black and white wingtip oxfords from Modcloth, $40. 2. The neutral: Alexander Wang Ines patent oxford in nude from Net-a-porter.com, $425. 3. 1970′s-inspired

Lately, I’ve noticed that I tend to gravitate towards 70′s looks, with chinos, men’s trousers, blouses, etc. It all started with my obsession with Original Penguin a few years back. Recently, I purchased this copper pair of chinos from ASOS after falling in love with them, but I’m not as crazy about them in real-life. I can find plenty of things to go with them, but the fit isn’t as flattering on me as other pairs of pants. I’m debating on taking them in on the inseams or just returning them altogether (or I may even turn them into a pair of boyfriend shorts for the summer).

The necklace is from a Dallas designer whose name I can’t remember. One of my closest friends Jake bought it for me for Christmas at Dolly Python (on Haskell Ave. in Dallas), and I am madly in love with it. I love the ivory carved leaf with the thick gold chains framing it, and the way it falls from the neck. I hope to get some more pieces from this lady!

These past few weeks, I’ve been so busy moving into my new apartment and finishing up the semester that I haven’t had time to update. I hope to have pictures of the new place up soon–it’s a really DARLING duplex located in a much quieter part of town. In the mean time, I wanted to post about the latest project I did with Ignacio Torres and my sister, titled “3D.” Since I’ve known Ignacio, he’s developed such a unique style. It’s eerie, dark, witchy, and fashionable; especially when he combines it with that creepy, slow animation. He’s so talented and I love working with him.

SPIRIT DAY

OCTOBER 20 is the day to celebrate differences in sexuality and identity, and to mourn the loss of those who have committed suicide because people don’t accept who they are. This is America. This is a country of freedom. And that includes EVERYONE’S freedom to express love freely, and to not have to be afraid of b

ullying, physical abuse, verbal abuse, and mental abuse because you aren’t straight. SO FCKH8 and ❤EVERY1!

Today, I went all out in purple to celebrate SPIRIT DAY, a day to voice our right to freedom of sexuality and a day to mourn the young adults who committed suicide after being relentlessly harassed for their sexual preferences and identities. It is a day to recognize brave teens like Andy Moreno, who was denied the chance to run for homecoming queen in my hometown because she is transgender. It is a day to peacefully but loudly recognize our RIGHTS. I was incredibly moved by the number of facult

y members and students on the UNT Campus today who also took part in rallying against hate.

Here’s what I wore today:

Aux États-Uni, être homosexuel est malheureusement considéré comme un problème. Beaucoup de gens qui sont anti-homosexuel abusent des homosexuels pour leurs croyances. Recemment, un nombre d’adolescents homosexuels se suicide parce qu’ils leurs camarades de classe les ont harcelés. C’est une tragédie. Indian Summer

Lately, we’ve had beautiful weather in Northeast Texas: seventy-five by day, sixty by night. It’s still to warm for sweaters, but my outfits are inspired by autumn nonetheless. Today I’m wearing an American Apparel floppy hat, a peter pan collar blouse and shorts from Urban Outfitters, and shoes from Bakers. I took a black sash off one of my straw hats and pinned it to the blouse.

Recemment, il a fait beau au Texas au nord-est: soixante-quinze par jour, soixante par nuit. Il est encore trop chaud pour les vestes, mais mes tenues sont inspirées par l’automne. Aujourd’hui, je mets un chapeau d’American Apparel, une chemise avec un collier de Peter-Pan, et des shorts d’Urban Oufitters. Les chaussures (pas de photo) sont de Bakers.

Also, does anyone know why these photos are coming out so grainy, and how I can fix this?

I’m working on building my collection of mardi gras masks. I love even the mass-produced ones that you find in the vast number of cheesy gift shops that plague the French Quarter. All of them come from New Orleans.
